1. Possess a Current License

2. TB Test
Provide results of a negative Tuberculosis (TB) test completed by any licensed healthcare professional dated within the past 12 months.
3. Online Application
Complete the online application and include contact information (including email addresses) for 3 professional references.
4. MHED Background Check
If invited for an interview, MHED completes a background check on all applicants prior to being offered employment. The applicant is responsible for the initial Background Check fee of $35. This fee is fully refundable if offered employment with MHED and he/she completes 10 substitute teaching assignments within the MHED schools.
5. Pre-Employment Meeting
All applicants that pass the background check during the application process will be invited to a Pre-Employment Meeting. This meeting is the final step toward becoming an MHED Substitute Teacher. The applicant will be eligible to begin accepting substitute teaching positions once this final step is complete. The purpose of the Pre-Employment Meeting is to review MHED and district procedures, introduce the applicant to our online system and improve confidence levels and teaching skills before entering the classroom. The MHED team also wants to make sure all of our Substitutes are proficient in employing appropriate and effective teaching strategies and classroom management each time he/she takes charge of a classroom. Pre-Employment Meetings are offered weekly.
6. Professional Development
Substitute Teachers who possess a Kansas Emergency Substitute License will be required to complete the STEDI.org SubSkills™ training by the end of their first school year with MHED and the STEDI.org Advanced training by the end of their third year with MHED. Substitutes with a Standard or Professional license are exempt from this training.
1. Must provide MHED a copy of your high school diploma.
2. Must have experience working with children Grades Pre-K-12.
3. Must complete steps 2-6 above.
