Sub of the month Dec 2016Carol began substitute teaching 11 years ago because of her love for children and teaching.

“I realize how important education is in opening doors for children and youth,” she said. “I’m a former literacy aide and have always had, and continue to have, a desire to learn.”

As a substitute, her goal is to be an effective teacher, in addition to providing a community service.

“I’m grateful to be associated with this kind of work. I find it very rewarding.”

Carol holds a bachelor’s degree in social work and has done post-graduate work in public administration. She currently substitutes teaches in the De Soto, Bonner Springs, and Leavenworth school districts, and her favorite age groups to sub for are kindergarten through third grade.

“I appreciate the helpful staff in all the schools, and the efficient MHED team. They are always a pleasure to work with.”

When Carol isn’t teaching, she is spending time with her husband and three children, and rooting on the Royals.

Carol was chosen for the December Sub of the Month due to many last minute assignments she took. She is very reliable and always willing to step up and fill in whenever she is needed.

Thanks for all you do for MHED and our schools!
